In 1901, Indian Motorcycle Company built the first American Made Motorcycle. There were 45 states in the USA and Harley Davidson did not come about for another two years. After World War II, Indian Motorcycle Company, along with every other motorcycle manufacturer in America except Harley Davidson, went out of business. In 1998, 50 years later, Indian Motorcycle Company reappeared. In 2001, they built their 100 year anniversary bikes, so they claimed. 2001 is also the first year of the Spirit, this bike is a cross between the smaller agile Scout and the big cruiser Chief.
With each bike sold, $1000 was donated to the restoration efforts after the catastrophe. I have number 29 of 62. This bike is truly a symbol of America! It pays tribute to all of the heroes who gave their lives so courageously on September 11, 2001. I am truly privileged to ride this work of art! Checkout my kids in their first commercial entitled "Where did you get that new motorcycle?" (approximate play time 2 min 30 sec)
